Jane Reagan’s experience in the fields of nutrition and counseling spans 25 years. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Health Education from the University of Arizona and a Masters of Education degree in Counseling from Boston University. She became a Registered Dietitian through the University of Northern Colorado. She is a CEDRD (Certified Eating Disorders Registered Dietitian) and is a Certified LEAP Therapist for food sensitivities. Additionally, she is certified in Adult Weight Management and is trained in Amino Acid therapy for mental health.
Jane is passionate about getting to the root of a person’s health issues. In her 20’s she came down with debilitating flu like symptoms that continued for decades. Her motivation to discover and address her own health issues resulted in an insatiable desire to expand her nutrition knowledge. She sought out many alternative practices and learned a whole body approach to true wellness. Jane believes in treating the whole person by meeting them where they’re at. She understands that food is meant to be enjoyed and loves helping people connect to the wisdom of their own bodies, while providing guidance with evidence-based practices for optimal nutrition.
Jane believes that food has the power to heal, and that understanding food choices, food quality and one’s relationship with food, can lead to greater awareness, improved health and a more abundant life. She regularly helps individuals understand how food impacts them physically, mentally and emotionally.
Jane started her work in nutrition and wellness at Canyon Ranch Health Resort in Tucson, AZ, followed by work at an in-patient eating disorders hospital in Boston. She has contributed significantly to nutrition within the Boulder Valley School District (BVSD). As Nutrition Educator for The GROWE Foundation & Garden to Table Program, she developed and taught a Colorado-based standardized nutrition curriculum for grades K-5. She also co-wrote a children’s cookbook, “Cooking is Cool.” In addition to her private practice at Essential Nutrition, Jane is also a Clinical Nutritionist at the University of Colorado at Boulder and is on CU’s Eating Disorder Team.
Jane’s specialties include: eating disorders; digestive health and wellness, food allergies/sensitivities; emotional/intuitive eating; adrenal fatigue; diabetes/hypoglycemia; cardiovascular disease/hypertension; lifestyle weight management, family/child nutrition and body composition testing/nutrition lab testing.
Jane has been a Boulder resident for over 20 years and has 4 children.
Dear Jane - I just wanted to write to you to say a resounding THANK YOU for all your help in getting my eating on track. A little over a year ago, I went to see you after my weight peaked at 174 lbs… read full letter
Jane is great and uses a treatment approach that addresses the person as a whole and not just their specific symptoms.
Jane is an engaging, thoughtful, and caring health care provider! She also makes very clear what she thinks I need to be doing in the nutrition area, which doesn’t always make appointments fun or easy, but makes them helpful/beneficial.
Jane really understood me and my needs. I never felt like I was just being plugged into formula. She made me feel really comfortable.
I was referred to Jane when I had first had accepted that fact that after five years, that I needed to get help for my eating disorder. After working with Jane for several months, I was able to finally after five years reach a normal weight. Now several months later, I have been able to retain a healthy weight and feel so much freer now to make better choices. Jane was not only able to help me gain weight, but was also an incredible emotional support for me as well and helped me talk about issues surrounding my eating disorder. I believe that this was crucial to my continued success, as I continue my life free from my disorder. I would recommend Jane to anyone struggling with these issues.
The greatest gift in working with Jane has been that I have learned to trust my body and its ability to communicate its needs in ways that I don't think I ever have. I have continued to lose weight at a realistic and healthy rate, but more importantly I have learned to listen to and trust my body, a skill that will allow me to continue to prioritize my health and keep the weight off. I'm grateful for the ability to continue working with Jane on this journey.
I have definitely been pleasantly surprised with how the MRT results have made me feel. I haven't had to take a reflux pill in several weeks and I feel like I have a lot more energy.
I appreciate Jane’s passion for nutrition and for helping people. She is genuinely a wonderful person. Asking for help can be difficult, but Jane makes it legitimately an exciting and such a worthwhile experience. Each time I leave her office I feel like skipping down the hall way ready to improve more and become a better person, not only nutritionally but as a person. Thank you with all the gratitude I have, Jane!
I just wanted to take a second to write and tell you two things. One is that I've lost two pants sizes since August, yay! I don't know how much I weigh, but don't much care. I can see little changes all the time. I'm still working on tweaking my diet and making it interesting, but I'm getting better at making sure the right things are going in at the right times. Thank you so much for your help. I'm sure you don't need me to tell you this, but you are amazing at what you do. I've referred two people to you -- I hope for their sake they follow through.
Jane: Thanks to you my life has taken a huge turn for the better. The analysis you have done on my food intake has been extremely productive and helpful and for that I am eternally grateful.
I’ve been walking on sunshine all day today. The labs, weight and scan have tangibly shown me that my efforts are paying off! Thank you so much for everything you’ve done. I could not have come this far without your support. I really appreciate it. Thank you again for helping me change my life! Rock on Mrs. Reagan
