About Amy Mendez
MPH, RDN, LDN

Amy Mendez is a registered dietitian who earned both her Bachelor’s and Masters degrees in Nutrition at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, NC and then spent 25 years in Charleston, South Carolina working in cardiac rehabilitation programs, disease prevention programs and specialized lipid clinics. She provided both individual and group nutrition education and counseling, specializing in cardiovascular disease risk factors. She has created and run lifestyle modification programs with an emphasis on steady, sustainable eating and activity changes. Her areas of nutrition expertise include cholesterol disorders, pre-diabetes and diabetes, hypertension, Atrial Fibrillation, and healthy eating for disease prevention.

Amy enjoys the personal connections she makes with her clients- understanding them as a whole person helps her collaborate to create an eating plan that not only addresses their medical concerns, but fits their budget, skills and lifestyle. She knows that people are looking for not only guidance, but also accountability to help stay on track for the long-run. Some may feel they “know what to eat, but just don’t do it.” In this case, she’s happy to help problem-solve and set up strategies for success.

Amy recently re-located to Colorado with her husband and daughter, leaving her college-aged son behind to finish up school in South Carolina. So far she is enjoying the low-humidity, gorgeous weather and plans to try to keep hiking a different trail in the area every chance she gets!
